reader question of the week #1

reader question of the week #1:

"I am planning my daughter's first birthday party, and would love some input. We are going with an 'enchanted fairy' theme. There are 25 kids invited- most are ages 1-5, and a few are older. I have no idea what to do for games, prizes, favors and centerpieces. Any pointers would be sooo great! -Zudannie"

At one I would recommend no organized activities except the eating of cake. You can do something really simple with the big kids. I' would avoid prizes. Too many will end up crying...

Definitely a good idea to avoid prizes.

As for a game/activity, I think it would be fun to make fairy crowns. Use a circular styrafoam "halo", and have lots of different sparkly fabrics or tulle and beads and stuff. The kids could pick what types of fabrics, etc they wanted and then the adults could help them tie them on, or the kids could tie them.

And you should definitely make cupcakes to eat. With pretty frosting.
