How forward-thinking of Better Homes & Gardens to put out a book cover with a little boy blowing out the candles on a flower-filled purple cake (in 1963)! I love his expression.

everything old is new again

Yet again- I've spotted something this week that I though was a 'new' concept, but has in fact been around for decades. A cupcake tower/cake spotted on a 1960's cookbook- who knew?

ode to vera

I think if I ever decided to collect something, it would definitely be Vera linens. She made the most lovely napkin sets and tea towels in to-die-for color palettes! The color combo above is all-time favorite for me. I spotted this beauty on ebay.

I just stumbled upon these vintage dixie straws- something straight out of a food stylist's dream! Lots of other fun vintage wares at Sugar & Meringue's etsy shop.

holiday odds & ends

I'm starting to wrap up this week's posts and am left with an odds & ends pile of 'stuff', that I can't bear not to post - simply to archive them, if nothing else.

My all-time fave Christmas tree via MS Kids; lovely pom-pom ideas via Black Eiffel; advent calendar and gift tags from my friend Brooke; super creative ideas for the Charley Harper puzzles at Old Navy via Creature Comforts; jingle garland, deer placecard box and cellophane wreath from Design Sponge; vintage holiday party pic (with hilarious commentary) via Peak of Chic.

I was flipping through some of my husband's old baby albums the other day, and ran across these vintage Christmas photocards. Apparently there was one variation- candy cane horizontal or candy cane vertical! I don't know why I thought this was a new invention...so funny to see these from the late 70's.

i spy: cupcake topper trend?

It seems vintage cupcake toppers are the new thing. I raved about it first at this cowboy birthday party, then loved seeing it in Winter Wonderland form here, then spotted it yesterday at yet another cowboy birthday here! (Be sure to check out the cute napkin display idea at the cowboy birthday).

vintage party week: glamour camping, ski party and dress-up

I'm not a camper at all- but these images of 'Station Wagoner Camping'- make me think I could brave the wild, for at least one night. I also love the champagne chilled in the snow.
