reader question of the week #1

"My son, Oliver, is turning 2 on July 2nd. My little man LOVES sushi so we are throwing him a sushi themed second birthday party at a local Sushi restaurant. My question is what ideas do others have to make this party complete? What would you do for favors? Decor? Treat bags or favors? Invitations? Thank you! -Christine"

maybe have jars full of colorful chopsticks, put wasabi peas in glassine bags for favors...or maybe too spicy for 2 year olds? ok, for the parents! i have also seen some really cute sushi erasers that would be neat for favors.

Make 'Peepshi" -- it's faux sushi made with peeps, rice krispie treats and fruit leather -- so adorable!

I came across these a couple of weeks ago and thought, what a cute idea! I think if you go to a Asian market you can get sushi plates pretty cheap. You can make these and stick some in a takeout container and attach a cute little chop stick kid.

Chopstick kids comes in a girl and boy version but I only saw the boy on Amazon which was the cheapest I've seen them.

Also check out this cute Japanese party site, cute things! The mini dragon noise makers would be cute and Maybe one of those wooden boats to serve the sushi!

Hope this helps!

Have you heard of dessert sushi? You make rice crispie treats. Cut them into rectangles (this is the rice). Get the large swedish fish (this is the fish). Then buy green fruit by the foot to wrap around the fish and the rice crispie (this is the sea weed).

Find a Japanese/Asian market, they have some of the most fun candies. If you have the patience strings of origami swans would be really fun decorations -- and, depending on the age of the kids, maybe even a simple origami lesson would be a good activity.

We just went to one, and the take home for the kids was a beta fish. Those cheap little chinese change purses were the food markers (held little cards telling you what everything was). Everyone also got clear take out containers filled with treats. If you are having tables, each one can be a chinese zodiac...your at Year of the Dog, you sit at Year of the Horse, etc.

Try sweet sushi rolls as a dessert. Make rice crispy treats and form into sushi roll shapes while still warm. (About 2 TB of rice crispy treat) Wrap with green fruit roll ups for the "seaweed" and add some chopped dried fruit or fruity pebbles in the middle to complete the look. Your girls or guys will feel glamorous when eating this tasty sushi for kids!

This seems like a great chance to go crazy with invites!! You could use a chopsticks font, or a wasabi/soy color theme! Where I live, here in
Baton Rouge invitations are always so traditional...What a fun chance to get creative!!!

No matter how obvious this step was, I had occasions when I sent an invitation at 11 pm on the eve of my birthday. For people like me, salvation is a service of invitations on Facebook (well, is there really someone else who does not have a Facebook page? Well, I dubbed information to such individuals of a rare endangered species). Why is Facebook invitation better than a mail invitation? Because there you can add information (the same wish list, dress code, action address) as you receive it with cool pictures of cool party that you are planning and receipt of cocktails with crushed ice from https://icemakershub.com/best-crushed-ice-maker-shaved-ice-machine-reviews/
