in need of sesame street inspiration

Mom Jenilee is looking for inspiration for a Sesame Street-themed birthday party... specifically for food, decorations or games. I found these great cake pops from Bakerella that fit the bill. Other thoughts?

Hostess With The Mostess has quite a few Sesame Street themed parties. Search under Cookie Monster and S.S. and you'll find them. Good luck!

Sesame street cupcakes as well as cake pops might be fun. I've made them before with things you can get in any supermarket. Instructions blog here: http://christinasparkle.blogspot.com/2009/11/sesame-street-cupcakes.html

I saw some little Sesame Street figurines and things in the dollar bins at Target recently.

You could try to think of one thing particular to each character you are featuring and have decorative items that go along with that. Like a fish bowl or crayons for Elmo, a gray lidded trash can for Oscar, a plate of chocolate chip cookies for Cookie Monster (for a "game" you could let all the kids eat a cookie very messily like the Cookie Monster does--if you are up for that mess), a big nest for Big Bird . . .

Another easy way to decorate is just by using a few colors repeatedly. Maybe you could choose those colors based on your favorite characters and then do balloons, streamers, garland, etc. in those colors.

For games you could try to mimic some of the games they do on the show. "One of these things is not like the other" or a counting or letter matching game of some sort . . .

Or you could really narrow the theme and have the party "brought to you by the letter ___ and the number ____" (do they also do a color each show?) just like they do on each episode. You could do the first letter of your child's name and his/her age and use that all throughout the party. I'd have to watch another episode to remember exactly how this is incorporated, but I know they do a lot of repetition with those letters/numbers.

Okay, that last idea is my favorite. :) Good luck!

Thought of another decoration or activity idea . . . in another comment Lisa's linked to some scallop punch character faces, and they're really cute! You could make cupcake toppers out of those faces if you were doing cupcakes.

Or you could have the kids make puppet faces on a popsicle stick by gluing together shapes that you pre-cut. The characters' faces are all made out of pretty basic shapes. That would be a pretty easy activity, if you were able to put the time into cutting the shapes ahead of time.

Let us know how it turns out!

The rest of the party is pretty cute too, especially the invitations!
