reader question of the week #1

I've got a long list of questions in my inbox, so we are going to tackle a couple this week!

reader question of the week #1:

"I am planning a 1st birthday party for my son with a Winter ONEderland theme. Colors are white, light blue and silver. It will be from 2-4 pm. What ideas do you have for a "finger food" menu? Thank you! - Heidi"

I put on a Winter Onederland birthday for my son's first. Details here:

For food, snowflake shaped mini sandwiches, cupcakes with coconut on top, snowflake cookies, etc.

how about big pretzel sticks dipped in white chocolate and then rolled in silver candy beads!

How about some white raw veggies (jicama, cauliflower, white asparagus, etc.) to dip in a good cream cheese-based dip or hummus? Other ideas: popcorn, various cheeses or cheese sticks, cheese plate...

Martha Stewart has done a lot of "white showers" for other events and you could get some ideas on her site by searching 'white shower'...good luck!

You should have a hot cocoa bar for older sibs and parents...maybe serve white hot cocoa and then have bowls or jars filled with white toppings..whipped cream, marshmallows, mini white chocolate chips, etc. I have even found white candy canes to use as a garnish or to stir the cocoa.
