"My 16th birthday is coming up in December and I was wondering if you have any good ideas for teen birthdays? I'm looking for inspiration! Thank you, Megan"

I saw a "sweet" sixteen party with lots of pink and brown candy in clear jars, chocolate brownies and cupcakes and a mock pink cocktail....It was adorable!

I'm thinking maybe a winter white wonderland type thing. All the food and treats are white. Everyone wears white and there are lots of ice-inspired, sparkly decorations. Or if you're more of a laid-back gal, an alpine theme with cozy, plaid thermos' of cocoa. "fireplace" video on TV and a "bad sweater" contest. Whatever the theme, definitely set up a photo booth with a fun backdrop to remember the occasion!

I work with the teens at my church, and their favorite thing about the Christmas party last year was the tacky Christmas sweater contest. They came in some truly awful/hilarious sweaters they got from Goodwill or from their moms' and grandmoms' closets. One of them even had a sweater with lights. We have a quirky group that really gets into stuff like that, but everyone loved it.

What about a jewelry making party? You gather a colorful buffet of beads and let each of your guests design her own bracelet and earrings to remember your birthday party by. Someone who's a seasoned jewelry maker can help you choose your supplies and be on hand to help with the tricky parts (putting the clasps on, etc.) Just a thought!

I just put together a fun kickball party for my teenage daughter and her friends. Depending on what area of the country you live in a kickball party might not work in December but it was a really fun party and got everyone interacting and laughing with each other, You can see pictures here...

What about an elegant Mocktail Party? Everyone can get dressed up and sip on non-alcoholic beverages in fancy glasses with garnishes. Maybe your parents or siblings can serve as your bartenders. Here's a link to some cosmopolitan-colored party invitations and more that might work. The cupcake toppers could also be used as cocktail picks.
