pardon the interruption

When reader Jennifer asked if I could make an exception and post a question for an upcoming party she's having this weekend, I said yes, given the circumstances...I hope you'll be able to help!

"I am throwing a tea party fundraiser for 40 people next weekend. It is to benefit the family of a little boy who fell from a third story window and sustained a brain injury. For the finale of the tea, I will give each guest some sweet treats - french macarons and petits fours (all donated by the community!) and would like to put them in clear treat bags, but want a unique twist...any ideas of how I could make this more unique, special and fun? My colors for the tea are shades of coral and pink."

You could use a ribbon to attach something like this to the clear plastic bags. I used one layer of scrapbook paper (on which I stamped thank you) and then a layer of vellum on top. I got the shape for the bird by searching online but you could use any shape.

Since it's a tea party you could tie the package with baker's twine (there's some in shades of Pink & Coral in the Martha Stewart line at Michael's) and staple a small tag (with a message) to the end of the string to look like a tea bag.

Amy, I can't open that link for some reason - is it correct?

I would buy some cute stickers from here:

and tie with coordinating ribbon!

Instead of clear bags, why don't you package them in mini bakery boxes, tied with paper twine? Slip a small, blank piece of paper under the string for guests to remove and write a note for the little boy. You can collect them all and make a banner of well-wishes for his room.

To give the cellophane bag more structure, I would line the *inside* of the bag with cardstock. This way, the lining will provide a place for the delicate pastries to sit and will protect them from being squished. Plus, it looks really nice.

You can use pretty patterned stock that matches your color scheme or you can print out a design and message on your printer and cut and fold to fit the bag. This works best if the bag is gusseted, but it will also work for a flat cellophane bag. The insert will actually give the flat bag structure.

Since I'm likely making this sound much more confusing than it is, I created a quick post on my blog with photos so you can see a sample: http://pumpkinpetunia.blogspot.com/2009/08/gusseted-favor-bag.html

Since time is of the essence, I didn't want you to be confused.
