I'm a bit behind in posting reader questions, so this week, I'm featuring two...

reader question of the week #1:

"I'm trying to pull together an 'Army' or 'Camo'-themed birthday for a little boy. Any ideas to help make it look less like a store-bought party would be greatly appreciated! -Lindsey"

Depending on the age of the children, it could be fun for them to run in an army-style obstacle course, especially if a local playground has a climbing wall. You could use divided trays covered with foil as "MRE"s and give away personalized dogtags as thank-you favors. You could divide the kids into two groups (using different colors of bandannas or camo shirts?)and have them wage a "war" using water balloons, or play team games like capture the flag.

Tie dying shirts in camo colors would be cool, either to do at the party or as party favours. Also my friend's little boy is really into this and they de corated his room with a camo netting, I think it would be fun to decorate the part that way. http://www.cabelas.com/blinds-concealment.shtml

Army/Navy Surplus or any place that sells hunting and general sporting goods will have camo gear. If you have an Academy Sports & Outdoors in your area, that's where I would go 1st. Walmart usually has stuff too. I bought camo duct tape there. My son has a camo cap with his name hand painted in orange letters on it. It's his favorite cap. I believe it was a party favor.

An army tank cake would be a sinch to make. a small rectangle cake with a little square on top.. Ice it with green frosting and put a black straw coming out of the square on top for the gun. A few toy army guys, some oreos for wheels and the lid on top and you've got it made.

A camouflage challenge to see who can hide things the best? You could also do a scavenger hunt to find things that are hiding. And water gun fights are always fun :)
