Lucky for us, Candice Drew shared this great idea for a keyboard cake she made for her daughter's 5th birthday party. Don't you love it? I think it could be adapted for any music lover, regardless of age. (Candice's daughter has recently been loving her piano lessons, which served as inspiration).I even love the mod graphic platform she used to display it.
Easy directions from Candice... "I baked two cakes in 9x13 pans, then trimmed the edges to get the shape that I wanted. Placed them together end to end on the cake board, frosted the whole thing, scored the frosting with dental floss, then used kit kat candy bars for the black keys. VERY easy!"

Awww, the look on her daughter's face tells the story doesn't it? It's perfect!
My mom is a piano GENIUS and her birthday is in August. I'm SO doing this. Any tips on getting the 9x13 cake out of the dish?
What a unique idea! I really love birthday cakes that give a bit of insight to the childs interests and personality.

I love this. What a great idea to use Kit Kats for the keys.
VERY COOL! I'm a piano teacher and I LOVE this idea! And something I can even do- yeah! :)
This is so cute! I'm a piano teacher too. I will keep this idea in mind for a studio party! I just love themed cakes!
To get cakes easily out of the pans, put a piece of wax paper in the bottom before you bake it. Then it'll flip out perfectly, and you just peel the wax paper off the bottom/top. Make sure you flip it back over before you frost it or it will be a crumbly mess!
