reader question of the week

You guys were wonderful with last week's question- so much amazing input! I need to fast-track this one...it has been lingering in my inbox and I just realized we're halfway through March. I LOVE this idea...

"A friend and I are both turning 23 in March and wanted to hold a "prime" birthday party (yes...we know we're dorks...we're grad students at MIT). Anyway, we have some ideas for food (seven layer dip, prime rib, three layer cake), but I was curious if anyone else had any ideas. Thanks! -Bridget"

For those needing a refresher course in 'prime' numbers, here you go (from Wikipedia): "A prime number is a natural number which has exactly two distinct natural number divisors: 1 and itself. An infinitude of prime numbers exists- the first twenty-five prime numbers are: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, 29, 31, 37, 41, 43, 47, 53, 59, 61, 67, 71, 73, 79, 83, 89, 97."

Here is a yummy recipe for Chicken with 40 cloves of garlic. Why not add another clove to make it 41 cloves instead of 40 to make it prime.

Their speciality drink should be 7 & 7s (Seagram's 7 and 7-up) with a cute name. Or at least, some sort of drink with 7-up.

Definitely a garland hanging over the dining table or around the seating areas made with all prime numbers. I would use fishing line so it looks like the numbers are just floating overhead. (similar to the bird and butterfly garlands at the bottom of this post: http://greenweddingshoes.blogspot.com/2009/03/hanging-paper-cranes-and-more.html)

And/or a huge canvas painted in a very graphic design of all prime numbers.

A Happy Birthday sign where the letters are composed of prime numbers. (the kind where you need to look closely to see that the letters are actually rows of text, number in this case, in the form of the letter)

agreed...these are great! The party was last Friday, and we ended up with lots of layered things and drinking Three Philosophers...but I wish I would have known about some of these other ideas. Thanks so much!
